The Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College entered its 75th year on Thursday, November 27.
The platinum jubilee celebrations were held on the premises of the Faculty of Medicine. Founded in 1951, the Faculty of Medicine has grown into one of the nation’s leading medical education and treatment institutions. Doctors who came through the portals of this institution are now working in many world destinations.
On an average, at least 8,000 people seek treatment at various dispensaries at Thiruvananthapuram MCH, while about 500 hospitalizations are done daily. Apart from the MBBS course which admits 250 students, there are 24 specializations and 16 super specializations.
The institution is undergoing a phase of rapid development and the second phase of the ₹717.29 crore master plan is underway, Health Minister Veena George said. She congratulated all the doctors and staff who have been a part of the institute’s 75-year journey
New departments of intensive care, genetics, fetal medicine, pediatric gastroenterology, geriatrics, interventional radiology and rheumatology have been put into operation at the MCH, she added.
