Thirteen people lost their lives in separate incidents after it was hit by lightning through Bihar on Wednesday (April 9, 2025). The highest number of deaths, five, was reported from the Begusarai district, followed by four in Darbhang, three in Madhuban and one in Samastipur.
There were five deaths in the Jurisdictions of Mufassil, Bhagwanpur, Ballia and Sahebpur Kamal Police Stations. In Bhagatpur Panchayat, under the limits of the Ballia police station, viral Paswan, 60, son of the late Sukhdev Paswan and resident Ward number 4 Village Bhagatpur died as his wife suffered injuries. Another victim was identified as Indira Devi, a middle -aged woman from Sahebpur Kamal. He was also killed by a farmer who returned after checking his crops in the Bahiyar wheel (Mufasil Police Station). In addition, two people from Manopur, allegedly below the Bhagwanpur police station, died when they were hit openly during defecation.
Four deaths were reported in Darbhang. One victim was identified as Jawahar Chaupal, 68 years old, the son of the late Lakhan Chauupal from Ladho Kataiya (Biraul Police Station). He was hit while brought harvested wheat for threshing. Three other deaths occurred in separate incidents in the district. One death due to flash was also confirmed in the Samastipur district.
The Madhubani district recorded three deaths. Durga Devi, 45, Resident Pipulia Panchayat (Jhanjharpur Police Station), was fatally affected by lightning while she went to cover cow manure. In the village of Alpura, as part of the limits of the Rudrapur Police Station, Mohammad Zakir and his daughter Ayesa died on the spot as Lightning hit when they tried to cover the harvested wheat.
Main Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his grief over deaths and handed over his deep condolences to the affected families.
The official press release from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that Mr. Kumar ordered the authorities to immediately provide the families of all deceased individuals carelessly Gratia Gratia Grant 4 ₹ Lakh.
Mr. Kumar appealed to people to be fully vigilant in bad weather.
Mr. Kumar urged the public to remain fully vigilant during bad weather. “In case of bad weather, follow the proposals issued by occasionally issued by the Department of Disaster Management to Protection from Lightning. Stay inside and stay safe in bad weather,” Mr. Kumar said.
Bihar’s weather suddenly changed, causing rain and storms in many districts. The meteorological department predicted that such conditions could persist in the next few days and recommended farmers to be vigilant in protecting their crops.
