Australia’s public policy creators are catching up with rapid changes in the India-Australia relationship, and in this context it is necessary to invest in building Think tanks between the two parties, Herve Lemahieu, the director of the Lowy Institute research in Sydney. Mr. Lemahieu’s remarks came as a result of Australia and announced “Maitri Grants”, which, among other things, finance the recruitment of a prominent scholar for the Indian chairman in the Lowy Institute, which is known for high quality research in international studies from an Australian point of view.
“Australian public and political debates play catching up on the rapid development of bilateral partnerships. But Think tanks must also do a better job in India in a wider regional and international context. The country will be the central player through the chop and the change we experience in global policy.”
The chairman of India will be a new initiative to further support India’s understanding in Australia to support a bilateral partnership. Herve Lemahieu described India as “an anchor for a strategic balance for Australia and a wider Indo-Tichoral region” and added that “understanding India, its trajectory, power and distraction of interests has never been more important to us”.
“This first -class research program at the Lowy Institute will do it just. It will increase India in terms of our research agenda. It is an opportunity to bring new talents, fresh perspectives and deepen the bench on a vital piece of puzzles in terms of how Australia looks and involved.” Australia and India are partners in the Quad Group, which also include Japan and the United States, and that these two countries have a history of cooperation that dates back to immediate years after independence in India. Both parties are working closely on issues in the Indo-Pacific region as well as the ASEAN group, where the Myanmar crisis raised concerns about Nový Delhi and Canberry.
Other Maitri Grant Projects will include an exhibition of Raja Ravi Varma paintings, the annual management dialogue and innovative research infields, such as pure energy and biomanufacturing, a press note from the Australia Relations Center in India. Australia’s high Commissioner Philip Green appreciated the initiative in the Lowy Institute and said: “The Indian chairman at the Lowy Institute will contribute to understanding India to Australians at a deep level.
