On Tuesday (April 15), President Donald Trump accused China of giving up a large agreement with Boeing, after the report that the Chinese authorities had ordered domestic airlines to cease to receive new deliveries from the American airline.
“Interestingly, Boeing has just gave up the Boeing Agreements and stated that they would not” own “from the full committee on the plane,” Trump wrote on Truth Social without developing the size or specifics of the agreement.
Bloomberg said Beijing instructed not only current supplies, but also purchases of related equipment and parts from American companies, which seems to be a retaliation for escalating American tariffs.
Trump: “China bought only part of” trade obligations
In the same paper, Trump criticized China for alleged failure to meet his obligations for a previous trade ceasefire mediated during his first term.
“China bought only part of what they agreed to buy,” Trump said, referring to the first place signed at the beginning of 2020. “They had no zero respect for Biden’s administration.”
The US President’s notes underline the reinforcing attitude of his administration against Beijing, because the two largest economies in the world trade are blowing tariffs and countermeasures.
The tariffs are connected on both sides
Trump escalating trade wars ordered a large set of tariffs on Chinese goods – increased to 145% collection on China import, quoted economic security and alleged involvement of Beijing in the fentanyl crisis.
Recently, Trump’s administration has carved exceptions for consumer electronics such as smartphones and laptops.
Beijing responded to his own countermeasures, initially focused on American agricultural exports, and later stepped up to 125% tariff on a wide range of American goods.
“Farmers are on the first line”
Trump acknowledged that American farmers are often the first to feel the effects of tariffs but promised strong support.
“Farmers are always on the first line with our opponents like China,” he said.
