Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum on Tuesday clarified that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders in Kalaburagi district and appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumors doing the rounds on social media.
In a statement, she said that sufficient fuel stocks are available with oil companies and at petrol depots across the district and supplies are being maintained without interruption.
Likewise, there is no interruption in the supply of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders, she added.
The deputy commissioner warned that strict legal action would be taken against those spreading false information about shortage of fuel and cooking gas.
She noted that the distribution of LPG cylinders is being done in accordance with the norms and appealed to consumers not to panic and fill gas agencies.
Urban consumers can book domestic pressure cylinders only after 25 days of previous supply, while rural consumers can book after 45 days, she said.
Ms Taranum said the unnecessary haste in agencies, fueled by misinformation, was leading to avoidable confusion.
It also advised domestic and commercial users, including hotels and restaurants, not to store excess cylinders. The district administration is in constant coordination with oil companies like HPCL, IOCL and BPCL to ensure adequate supply in line with the demand, she added.
Reassuring the public, she said there was no need to panic and appealed to citizens to rely only on official information.
