The director of Jayadeva Institute for Cardiovascular Science and Research, KS Ravindranath, called on people on Saturday not to hit for recent reports of sudden deaths as a result of a heart attack, and recommended them not to throw the institute out of anxiety.
Dr. Ravindranath spoke after the start of the newly built 30-bed block in the hospital and said that the Institute witnessed an increase in the influx of outpatient patients after frightening over heart attacks. The hospital was visited by another 400 outpatient patients, resulting in the patient’s load.
Similar trends were observed on hospital branches in Bengalur and Kalaburagagi, he added.
Referring to the recent death in the Hassan district, he said, “People plunged into the institute for fear. In fact, there was no increase in the number of deaths as a result of a heart attack. Only a report on these deaths in the media has increased.”
He explained that not all sudden deaths are related to heart attacks, because there could be other basic reasons. The government ordered a detailed study of these cases, he added.
Dr. Ravindranath recommended people to first reflect on blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, alcohol consumption and mental stress before visiting the institute.
They advised that those in the age group 30 to 40 could undergo heart checks.
