As many as 3,60,844 seats are currently available for Plus One Higher Secondary admissions, General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph said. Addressing a press conference to announce the SSLC results on Friday, Ms. Joseph said there were also 33,000 upper secondary seats available, as well as more than 30,000 polytechnic and ITI seats.
The admission of Plus one would likely start online on May 25. If the demand for seats was higher, the formula adopted in previous years would be used to meet the shortage with the approval of the competent authority. The department has initiated a process in this regard, Ms. Joseph said.
Director of General Education, NSK Umesh said that depending on the number of applications, there will be a need for a marginal increase in the number of seats and temporary allowances will be assessed and seats will be sanctioned. According to him, there would be no problem with the reception.
Usually, in government and aided schools, a marginal seat increase of up to 30% is allowed at the start of the admissions process to increase the availability of Plus One seats. Provisional batches, especially in the Malabar region, were also allowed to continue being included in the first Plus One allotment till last year.
