Generic drug maker Aurobindo Pharma’s TheraNyM Biologics subsidiary inaugurated a ₹1,200 crore manufacturing facility near Hyderabad on Wednesday (June 3, 2026), with the potential to create over 1,500 jobs for local youth.
Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu formally inaugurated the facility that will manufacture drugs used in the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The products will be exported to several international markets, including the US, the minister’s office said after an event attended by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and others.
The facility was established at Borpatla village in Hathnoora Mandal in neighboring Sangareddy district. It is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 1,500 local youth, Mr. Sridhar Babu’s office said.
With the arrival of TheraNyM Biologics, the global reputation and value of the Made in Telangana brand in the Life Sciences sector is expected to further strengthen. The state government is reiterating its focus on cementing Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for Life Sciences companies.
Two years ago, Aurobindo Pharma announced the signing of a Master Services Agreement between TheraNym and global pharmaceutical company Merck Sharpe & Dohme Singapore Trading Pte. Ltd. (MSD) for contract manufacturing of biological preparations.
TheraNym, the parent company said, will manufacture the products and supply them to MSD and intends to invest around ₹1,000 crore to build a manufacturing facility with large bioreactors for any mammalian cell culture product and a vial insulator filling line for commercial production of medicinal products up to 25-30 million vials per year.
Earlier this year, Aurobindo Pharma said that TheraNym Biologics will set up a greenfield project to commission a large-scale mammalian drug manufacturing facility (Block 2) that will house a total of 60 KL of bioreactor capacity with an investment of approximately USD 150-175 million. This follows the signing of a product plan that is an addendum to the existing contract manufacturing operations (CMO) agreement with MSD, the company said.
