Kalavidaru, a federation of theater groups in Shivamogga, has approached the Hassan district administration to provide theater rehearsal space at the Kuvempu Kalamandira premises in the city to theater groups at a low rent.
A delegation of federation officials met deputy commissioner Gurudatta Hegade in Shivamogga on Wednesday and appealed to him to reduce the exam hall rent to ₹50 for a five-hour session, on par with the exam hall at the Ravindra Kalakshetra premises in Bengaluru.
The artistes said they filed an appeal regarding the same in July this year when the hall rent was ₹500 per session. “The troupe would need a hall for at least one month to produce the play. The rental charges end up being very high for the teams. On request, the administration reduced it to ₹250 per session. However, the revised rent was also high compared to the rates prevailing in the capital,” a statement by the artists said.
Theater groups demanded that the rent be reduced to ₹50 per session. The Deputy Commissioner assured them that he would consider it and take up the issue with the Deputy Director of Kannada and Culture.
Kanthesh Kadaramandalagi, president of the federation, Honnali Chandrashekhar, general secretary, and RS Halaswamy, vice-president, were part of the delegation.
