The highly expected yellow Namma metro line will start limited operations by June 2025, provided that all necessary authorities are provided, Maheshwar Rao, CEO of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Operations in full are probably between August and September as soon as all train sets are received.
At the start of the “Stamp: Nudging Commuter Behavior”, which took place on Friday in City electronics, Mr. Rao said: “As soon as the Metro (CMRS) Commissioner (CMRS) will provide nod and train trains, the operation starts.
The 19.15 km yellow line, which stretches from RV Road to Bommasandra, has been structurally complete for several months. However, its launch was delayed mainly due to the late arrival of trains without a driver. The first dose of six coaches, produced in China, arrived in the Hebagodi depot 14 February of this year.
Mr. Rao added that BMRCL plans to start operation with three train sets. “By the end of the month or after the third set of train arrives, we will get some clarity. The operation will begin as soon as we have it in place,” he said.
It is expected that the start of operations on the line will facilitate traffic jams and will improve the connection to key corporate underframes such as Infosys and Biocon. The yellow line will have 16 fully raised stations and will serve as an important link, connecting the green line on RV Road and the upcoming pink line at Jayadeva Hospital Station.
STAMP
BMRCL, along with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA), Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) and WRI India, launched the “Stamp: Nudging Commuter Behavior” for Electronics City.
The aim of the program is to encourage people to move from passenger cars to public transport using behavioral science and technology.
The program of access and mobility stations (Stamp), head of TMF and WRI India, has been active in Bengalur since 2017 and has now expanded to six cities, including Hyderabad, Kochi, Pune, Nagpur and Delhi. According to the press release, the stamp allowed more than 50,000 pages to the last mile and helped save 240,000 minutes of passengers.
“As the Bengalur Metro Metro spreads with the upcoming yellow line, we expect to significantly reduce overload by moving thousands of vehicles off the road every hour,” Rao said. “We invite companies in Electronics City to actively motivate their employees to accept public transport. We are also encouraging organizations to propose innovative mobility solutions adapted to their commuting needs.
