Former President Joe Biden rejected criticism on Thursday (May 8) because of his delayed departure from the campaign 2024 and insisted on the conversation of “The View” ABC that he could defeat President Donald Trump in retaliation.
In his first live television interview since leaving the Office, Biden dealt with questions about the last months of his campaign, his relationship with the leaders of the parties and his role in Trump’s November victory.
“I take responsibility”
Biden, 81, firmly denied the accusation of his declining mental sharpness and said, “They are wrong.
Biden asked about his widely criticized debate performance, which stimulated democratic fears last June, and admitted it was a bad performance. “It was a bad night,” he said. “We still won the primary. The Democratic Party did not buy it, but the democratic leadership and some of the very important contributors did.”
Despite his possible withdrawal, Biden claimed that he was sure in his chances. “I do (I believe I could win) because look, I was in charge and won,” Biden said. “So I take responsibility.”
The first 100 days of Trump on Trump
Biden did not stay when he discussed Trump’s return to power, and criticized the first days of his opponent in the office.
“Let me like it, he had the worst 100 days he had ever had,” Biden said. “And I wouldn’t say that honesty was his strong point.”
“Did not want the divided side”
Biden stressed that his decision to resign was eventually about the unity of the party. “The only reason I got out of the race was that I didn’t want to have a democratic party,” he said.
When I thought about his departure, he noted, “When I left the race, she had hundreds of millions of dollars. She had the best organized – through our campaign – in every organization, each state was organized.”
Accuses the GoP “sexist route” for losing Harris
The former president also considered the unsuccessful offer of Kamaly Harris, saying that her loss was not “surprised” and accused the Republicans of the leadership of a sexist campaign.
“I wasn’t surprised, not because I didn’t think the vice -president was the most qualified person who was president … I wasn’t surprised because they went on a way – a sexist route, the whole route,” Biden said. “I have never seen such a successful and consistent campaign and undermined the idea that a woman could not lead Earth – and a woman of mixed race.”
Biden added that Harris, who is now considering her next step, remained in close contact with him. “He has a difficult decision on what he will do. I hope he will remain fully engaged,” he said. “I think it is first -class, but we also have a lot of really good candidates.”
Biden acknowledged that 2024 was a challenging year that quoted the persistent effects and inflation Covid-19. However, he admitted that his administration tried to emphasize her achievements. “We couldn’t advertise our winnings and what we have achieved,” Biden said.

Jill Biden defends her husband
Former First Lady Jill Biden joined the second half of the conversation, defended her husband’s work ethics, and pushed against the demands on a cognitive decline.
“People who wrote these books were not with us in the White House and did not see, as Joe worked hard every day,” Jill Biden said. “He got up, gave all day, and then at night – I would be in bed, you know, read my book, and he was still on the phone, read his briefings, worked with staff. I think it was nonstop.”
She also addressed the news that she had created a “cocoon” around Biden to protect him from checking. “I was with Joe day and at night. I saw him more than anyone else … and I didn’t create a cocoon around him,” she said, inviting the accusation of “so -called friends” “very harmful”.
