Sharath Ananthamurty, Vice -President of the University of Kuvemp, favored the integration of parts of conservative thinkers into academic texts to ensure a debate in the polarized country.
He spoke after the workshop of the English curriculum: Calls of teaching, organized on Tuesday by the Ministry of English and forum of university English in Shivamogg.
Prof. Ananthamurty, referring to the texts prescribed for students, felt that the prescribed texts were “politicized to the one side”. “Why can’t we read VD Savarkar at the First War of Independence in 1856 in the text? Just if you put certain works into the curriculum, does not mean that you promote the idea,” he said.
Ananthamurty, who further developed his idea, said: “In fact, inserting things that come from conservative thinking, the best sources, are very important. Otherwise our children will go and look for what Savarkar said through WhatsApp.
Referring to writing Dr. Br Br Bedcara, involving the Vice -Rector, said there was a risk of exaggeration of ambiability. “Not to reject ambiability, it is one of the greatest thinkers in the world. However, we have to use it appropriately. Not just ambedcar … Ambadecar as a mantra. Then it risk it will become cliché and wear. Do not understand me,” he said.
He added that there was a great abyss in the country. There is polarization in the nation. “We need a debate for a democratic nation. And the debate may occur in English texts. After all, our language resources are not just language teaching. It teaches you to think and negotiate through political territory. And this is very important to have conservative thinkers’ work,” he said.
Ananthamurty also took advantage of the exception of prescribing independent language texts for students of art, trade and science. He emphasized the need for language textbooks that would encourage art students to read the essay of scientific and scientific students to read the excerpts from the classics.
VS Sridhar, a retirement professor who presented the main speech, believed that the arrival of artificial intelligence was one of the greatest challenges with which the teachers did not deal with. When teaching the poem, the teacher could miss the emphasis on the importance of a dash, a client, a question mark or parentheses. There were chances that students would find it with the help of AI tools. “AI is a challenge for all teachers, especially for language teachers. We have to dig in all possible ways as the poem has been analyzed before teaching it in the classroom,” he said.
However, Mr. Sridhar said that no AI instrument could replace the voice of the teacher in the classroom.
Ramaprasad BV, chairman of the English Department; T. Avinath, director of Sahydri Commerce College; Shivalingaswamy, Professor Tumkur University; C. Channappa, chairman of the Foctet was present.
