
The Ranebennur police solved a woman’s murder case within 24 hours by arresting an acquaintance of the woman who confessed to the crime.
On Sunday, a woman, identified as Lalita Karabasappa Byadgi, 42, was found dead with her throat slit at her residence in the MG Patil Gin compound at Ranebennur in Haveri district.
Based on a complaint lodged by her son Ganesh, the Ranebenur city police registered a case. After the murder, Superintendent of Police Yashodha Vantagodi formed a special team led by Inspector Venkatesh N. and the team consisted of Sub-Inspectors Gaddeppa Gunjutagi and HN Doddamani and other police personnel.
The team managed to crack the case within 24 hours and arrested Chandrappa Shivalingappa Sannamallappanavar (36) of Kallihal of Haveri taluk, who was working as a waitress in a hotel in Ranebennur.
In a statement, Yashodha Vantagodi said the victim had lost her husband ten years ago and had been working as a maid in hotels and houses in Ranebennur for the past three years. The defendant, a bachelor, became intimate with the woman. He is said to have recently begun to suspect her fidelity.
The killing was out of revenge, police said. Further investigation is underway.
