Press Secretary of the White House Karoline Leitt on Monday (US local time) confirmed that the United States and India are approaching the completion of the trade agreement. Her comments came shortly after Trump expressed optimism about the completion of the business pact with India.
“The president said last week (that the US and India are very close to a business agreement) and it remains true. I just talked to our Minister of Trade. He was in an oval office with the President. These agreements are completing and listening to the president and his business team very soon,” Leitt said on press briefing.
Previously, when he spoke of mutual tariffs, President Trump said the US promoted a “decline in full trade barriers” and a greater approach to the Indian market, even though it has admitted uncertainty about achieving this goal.
“India, I think we’ll get to an agreement where we have the right to go and trade. Right now it’s limited. You can’t go there or you can’t think about it. We’re trying to get a full business barrier, which is unthinkable and I’m not sure it will happen.

During the briefing of Leavitt, he also appreciated the role of India as a US strategic ally in the Indo-Pacific region. She also emphasized a strong personal relationship between Trump and Modim.
Leitt said, as he said, “India remains a very strategic ally in Asia Pacific, and the president has a very good relationship with Prime Minister Modi and will continue to have it.”
Comments come when the Minister of external Affairs with Jaishankar is currently in the United States to attend the Foreign Ministers’ meeting. On Monday, he launched an exhibition at the UN called “Human Costs on Terrorism”, which aims to alert global attention to terrorism sponsored by the state.
