“Many people think that they will stay in jail for two months and then get bail. They should remember that this time we will confiscate and auction their properties. On the last day of the assembly, we will bring a bill to auction the properties of those involved in corruption,” the chief minister said.

On a tour of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who resides on Harish Chatterjee Street, “I will arrange accommodation for people living under the Kolkata flyover in palaces on Harish Chatterjee Street”.

Speaking at the Governor’s address in the State Assembly, the Chief Minister alleged that during the tenure of the previous government, ₹324 crore was irregularly handed over to FICCI at a business conference.

“During BGBS, the government gave ₹ 324.73 crore to FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). Can you see the signature of the former chief minister? This is just the tip of the iceberg!” Mr. Adhikari said, highlighting the documents in the state assembly.

The chief minister said a committee headed by former Calcutta High Court judge Biswajit Basu and IPS member secretary K Jayaraman has been set up.

“All the thefts they have committed, MGNREGA theft, housing theft, Jal Jeevan mission theft, Laxmi Bhandar theft – all the thefts they have committed, this commission will file a complaint and they will have to go to their homes,” he said.

The chief minister said that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, about 10,000 Bangladeshi nationals have left the state and 1,800 are being held in state government detention centers in 12 districts. Mr. Adhikari said that while the former chief minister was targeting the Border Security Force (BSF), while his government had allotted 142.79 acres of land to the BSF for constructing the border fence.

During much of his 45-minute speech, the chief minister talked about how he was targeted by the previous regime. Mr Adhikari said he was suspended from the State Assembly five times and kept out of the House for 11 months. The chief minister said over a hundred police cases were filed against him and even after the cases were quashed by the courts, he had to give details of 35 cases in his election affidavit.

During the Chief Minister’s speech, Trinamool Congress MLAs led by Ritabrata Banerjee staged a strike. Mr. Banerjee raised the issue of renaming Kolkata’s Suhrawardy Avenue after Gopal Mukherjee.

The chief minister joked about the situation in the Trinamool Congress where one group of legislators led by Ritabrata Banerjee staged a strike while others who are loyal to Mamata Banerjee remained in their seats. Asking Trinamool leaders to put their house in order, Mr. Adhikari said Trinamool will never recover from the split.
