The wedding of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhan and music composer Palash Muchhal has been officially called off. Mandhana broke her silence on the matter on Instagram and confirmed that the families called off the wedding after weeks of speculation.
The Indian cricketer released a short statement on Instagram on December 7, asking for privacy. She further added that she would like to end the matter with this statement.
“Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of speculation surrounding my life and I feel it is important that I speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I have to make it clear that the wedding is off,” Mandhana said.
“I would like to close this matter and ask that you all do the same. I ask that you respect the privacy of both families at this time and give us space to process and proceed at our own pace,” she added.
“I believe all of us and myself are driven by a higher goal who has always represented my country at the highest level. I hope to continue playing and winning trophies for India as long as possible and that’s what I will focus on forever. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” the Indian cricketer concluded.
Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal wedding
Mandhana and Muchhal’s wedding was expected to be a high-profile event, especially after India’s victory in the Women’s World Cup. The celebrations came to an abrupt halt just before the wedding after Mandhana’s father reportedly fell ill.
Wild allegations and conspiracy theories took over and Muchhal was accused of cheating. Muchhal’s family denied the reports and criticized people for spreading alleged lies against the music composer.
Mandhana and the Indian stars present at the wedding deleted all photos related to the function and went silent. On Sunday, December 7, Mandhana addressed the issue for the first time since the day the wedding events were stopped.
Following Mandhana’s post on Sunday, Muchhal issued his own statement saying he was distancing himself from his relationship with Smriti Mandhana.
Amid the backlash and wild theories, the record producer said he would take strict legal action against those who “spread false and defamatory content” against him on social media.
“I have decided to move on with my life and step back from my personal relationship. It has been very difficult for me to see how people react so easily to baseless rumors about something that is most sacred to me. It is the most difficult phase of my life and I will deal with it gracefully and stick to my beliefs,” Palash Muchhal said in a statement.
“I really hope that as a society we learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip whose sources are never identified. Our words can hurt in ways we may never understand. While we think about these things, many people in the world are facing drastic consequences. My team will take strong legal action against those who spread false and defamatory content,” he concluded with grace to all who stood by me.
