In December 2024, MHA wrote to all states to identify and deport undocumented Bangladeshi migrants. For example, Police in Delhi launched a two -month ride in January to identify Bangladeshi illegally in the country. Such units were also carried out among other states in Rajasthan, Telangana and Odish.
Over the past 13 months, up to 2,355 non -documented Bangladesh nationals have also been detained when they tried to enter the country. There were 153 people from other nationalities, including Myanmar, who were detained along the Bangladeshi border in the same period.
The government official said that agencies maintained all concerns about the border, along with the entry and the output of undocumented Indians.
From 1 January 2024 to 21 March 2025, 533 Indians – 237 were detained on the Bangladeshi border – 296 when they left India.
Bangladesh witnessed significant political changes in August 2024 after the launch of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Border Security Force (BSF) official explained how he found out whether the undocumented person from Bangladesh or India was. “We have ways to check their identity through local resources, because we usually have a record of people living in a few kilometers from the border. Dialect (spoken) and telephone records also provide traces. Those who sometimes confessed,” BSF said.
Another BSF official stated that to avoid legal cases that have continued for years, they also pushed undocumented migrants in coordination with Bangladesh border guards (BGB).
“Because the MHA Directive identifies and deport illegal Bangladeshi, we have seen an increase in the number of such people voluntarily leaving the country.
Approximately 300 Aadhaar cards and other identity papers, including driving licenses, Mr. Card and voter cards found owned by Bangladesh nationals, have been canceled in the last year after BSF wrote to the unique India (Uida) identification body and other government agencies.
BSF, deployed along 4,096 km the international border with Banglades, has been on the increased vigil since August 2024 with the instructions of MHA “not allow anyone to the country without valid documents”. MHA reported Lok Sabha 4 February that more than 800 km of boundaries with Banglades should still be fenced, and added that the BGB objections were one of the challenges facing the completion of the work.

On the basis of the recommendations of the Committee, which was created by MHA in 2022, Uidai was asked to maintain a “negative list” that prevented undocumented migrants from obtaining an identity document in the future.
The Committee, chaired by the Indian CEO to deal with UIDAI functions, recommends that the mechanism be developed to capture biometric and demographic details of identified illegal migrants in accordance with the UIDA standard so that Uidai can be in accordance with Uidai.
MHA asked Uidai, the Office for Immigration, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Office of National Crime Records to ensure that the biometry collection has been standardized.
