
After waiting for almost six decades, the inhabitants of the village of Kyampur in Uttar Pradesh finally decided that they could no longer wait. According to The Times of India, it is located along the Magai River in the Ghazipur district in Kyampur and about 50 surrounding villages – a home for more than 70,000 people – due to the lack of bridge.
Although the river is only 70 feet wide, the lack of transition forced the locals to travel 40 km to cover what should be 10 km on the way to the district mansion.
Ray of Hope
In January 2024, Hope returned in the form of a captain (Retd.) Ravindra Yadav, a former building engineer with a 55 engineering regiment of the Indian army, who after retirement moved back to his ancestor in Kyampur.

“I have served in the army for three decades and I have helped build numerous bridges during my contributions across the country, especially in distant areas of Nagaland and manipure. On February 25, 2024, the project received symbolic support when Shakhar Kumar Yadav from the High Court in Allahabad visited the village to lay the foundation stone and appreciate folk resistance and initiative.

The project, however, faced the roadblock. The District Administration asked the villagers to suspend construction until PWD and UP Bridge Corporation could not assess the structure for quality and safety standards.

“With regard to their long waiting demand, we asked for a work plan from the relevant departments in October 2024. He was handed over to the state government and could soon be admitted for approval,” DM said.
