K. Satheesh (55), a resident of Kowdiar and Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Chembuchira, Thrissur, died in the capital on Friday, giving a new lease of life to five others.
Satheesh was seriously injured when the two-wheeler he was riding was hit by a car near the AG’s office on December 8. He was declared brain dead on Friday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, after which his family expressed their wish to donate his organs.
According to his wife Mamatha, a government secretariat official, Satheesh often expressed his desire to be an organ donor.
When the family took the lead in donating his organs, K-SOTTO facilitated and coordinated the process. One of the kidneys went to an end-stage renal patient at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, while the other kidney and liver were transplanted to two patients suffering from end-stage organ failure at a private hospital, where they were confirmed brain dead.
The cornea was taken by the Regional Eye Institute for transplantation in two patients there
Expressing condolences, Health Minister Veena George also thanked Satheesh’s family, including his wife and two children, for their noble gesture.
