Kerala University Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge Mohanan Kunnummal convened the Syndicate meeting on November 1.
Various issues, including the reinstatement of suspended KS registrar Anil Kumar, are expected to be discussed. The meeting comes nearly two months after the Kerala High Court ordered the syndicate to take a decision on the matter while refraining from lifting the suspension. The court issued the order while considering the application filed by Dr. By Anil Kumar. The syndicate last met on September 2.
The vice chancellor recently informed the high court about the decision to convene the hearing, adding that the hearing would be recorded using CCTV cameras. Necessary measures have already been taken for this purpose.
The secretary was suspended on July 2 following an argument over the display of the controversial ‘Bharat Mata’ image during a private function attended by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the university’s Senate Hall. The incident created a difficult administrative impasse at the university.
Subsequently, while members of the Left Syndicate passed a resolution to lift the suspension, the Vice-Chancellor refused to recognize the legitimacy of the decision. For a short time the university was caught in a power struggle, with the registrar continuing to carry out his duties while the vice-chancellor refused to deal with the files handed to him. This dispute led to administrative paralysis that caused a significant backlog of files, including those related to academic and certificate applications.
