Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) said that the values anchored by Jainism offer an answer to the global challenges of terrorism, war and environmental degradation. He added that his government was determined to maintain the teachings of ancient religion.
Mr. Modi, who spoke at the event indicating the “Maja Mahamantra Divas” in the capital, noted that in the new building of parliament there was a visible influence of Jainism, including idolatry of Tirthankaras (spiritual teachers). He stated that Jainism recognizes the interdependence of the whole life and therefore prohibits violence in any form and offers deep lessons for peace, harmony and environmental protection.
“Incentive Mahamanantra Divas” (Navakar Day) is observed as a spiritual gathering to celebrate harmony, compassion and confidence. His central mantra pays tribute to enlightened beings and promotes reflection of values such as self -knowledge, non -violent and collective comfort. This year’s observance is preceded by Mahavir Jayanti 10 April.
Mr. Modi stressed that Mantra’s philosophy is in line with the vision of “Viksit Bharat” (developed India). He reiterated his statement, which had previously made of the Red Fortress, stressed that developed India was to include progress and inheritance – becoming a nation that reaches new heights without having to be in the trade, remaining firmly rooted in its traditions.
Mr Modi emphasized the efforts of his government and mentioned steps to protect Jain literature and quoted a recent statement by Pali and prakrit – languages in which many ancient Jain is written – as classical languages.
