Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru Spine Care Consultant Dr. Balamurugan T. on Thursday emphasized the importance of using robotics in the management of lower back pain and other spinal conditions.
Speaking at a press conference in Anantapur, he said: “The flexibility and dexterity of robotic systems helps increase accuracy and make smaller incisions. As robotic procedures are minimally invasive, patients experience less pain and blood loss both during and after surgery. This speeds up rehabilitation and significantly reduces post-operative discomfort, helping patients recover faster and return to normal life sooner.”
With continued innovation, cutting-edge technologies such as robotic-assisted procedures are changing the future of spine surgery, making it safer, more precise and less invasive, he said. The integration of robotics, artificial intelligence and advanced imaging is paving the way for a new era in spine care, ultimately improving the quality of life for patients worldwide.
Doctors said that spinal disorders are a growing health problem worldwide, affecting people of various age groups. The most common problem is lower back pain, which affects 60% of men and 80% of women, especially those over the age of 50.
The most common risk factors for spinal disorders include a sedentary lifestyle, history of pregnancy, overweight and work factors. Manual workers, especially those who work in the fields, are more likely to be affected due to repetitive strain on their spinal discs.
