The United States strongly condemned the French plan to formally recognize Palestine as a state and call it a “ruthless decision” that he says “Hamas propaganda”.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that France officially recognized the Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly.
“The United States strongly refuses to recognize the plan of @emmanuelmacron to recognize the Palestinian state at the General Assembly of @un,” said Foreign Minister Marco Rubio.
“This reckless decision serves only Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap face to face 7th October,” he added.
What did Macron say?
Macron, who revealed the X decision, published a letter sent to the President of the Palestinian Office Mahmúd Abbas, who confirmed the French intention to push in advance with Palestinian recognition and seek to convince other partners to follow.
“The truth to my historical commitment to a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East I decided to recognize Palestine France,” Macron said.
“I will make this ceremony at the General Assembly of the UN next September.”
According to the sum of AFP, the latest development brings the total number of countries that recognize or intend to recognize Palestinian statehood at least 142, despite the strong opposition of Israel and the United States.
If this continued, France would become the most influential European nation and the first group of rich democracies G7 to formally recognize the Palestinian state.

Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that this step “rewards the terror and risks of creating another Iranian proxy, as well as Gaza.”
“In these conditions, the Palestinian state would be a launch pad that would destroy Israel to live next to him,” he said.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel called this step as “shame and surrender of terrorism”, adding that Israel would not allow the establishment of a “Palestinian entity to harm our security, threatening our existence”.
American attitude toward the Palestinian problem
In the diplomatic cable sent in June, the United States expressed their opposition to any unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state and warned that such steps could be contrary to the interests of US foreign policy and potentially lead to consequences.

Israel conducted a devastating war from the Palestinian militant group Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel in October 2023 and says that the recognition of the Palestinian state would now be equivalent to Hamas’s remuneration.
Thanks to France, the Vice President of the Palestinian Office of Hussein Al Sheikh, said that Macron’s decision reflects “a French obligation to international law and his support for Palestinian rights to the self -determination and establishment of our independent state”.
