The new Delhi, August 5 (PTI) of the US, did not accept an Indian consultation request on the basis of an agreement by the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning US tariffs for steel, aluminum and related derivative products, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
The US claimed that these measures were introduced due to national security, the Minister of Trade and Industry Jitin Prazada listed in the written response of Lok Sabha.
However, India considers these measures to protect measures to be informed and subjected to consultations according to the WTO agreement (AOS).
“India has therefore reserved its right to suspend significantly equivalent concessions (the right to impose the same business measures in response) as a result of failure to comply with its obligations within AOS,” he said.
In a separate response, the Minister stated that India is actively involved in discussions with the US about a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) to expand trade and investment.

“In order to ensure the interests of farmers and the domestic industry, international trade negotiations allows the inclusion of sensitive, negative or exclusion lists – categories of goods for which limited or no tariff concessions are awarded,” he said.
In addition, in the event of an increase in imports and injuries of the domestic industry, the country can afford to trade correction measures such as anti -dumping and import guarantees.
