United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Adoor Prakash on Friday said the UDF leadership meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram was only a “formal” gathering. The meeting did not reach any final decision regarding ministerial berths. Key decisions regarding the new government, including cabinet formation and portfolio distribution, will be finalized at the next meeting scheduled for Saturday, he added.
Addressing the media after a meeting of the UDF leadership, Mr. Prakash said preparations for the swearing-in ceremony to be held on Monday were continuing. He said that along with Chief Minister-designate VD Satheesan, other UDF leaders may also take oath on the same day.
When asked about the composition of the state cabinet, the UDF convener said all these matters will be discussed during the meeting with the constituent party leaders on Saturday.
He clarified that Friday’s meeting did not take any final decisions on ministerial berths, the number of ministers to be allocated to each party or the distribution of portfolios.
IUML national general secretary and elected MLA PK Kunhalikutty also told reporters that no decision has been taken yet. He said discussions among UDF leaders would continue on Saturday after other leaders, including IUML state president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, arrived in the state capital.
