The Tripura government ordered an investigation into the incident of attacking two students in the first school hostel for college education. The State Minister of the Tribe, Bikash Debbarma, visited the Academy, founded in 1890 by King Bir Chandra Manica, and told students in higher classes to indulge in ogrging or physical attack in the future.
The parents of one of the two attacked students filed a complaint at the West Agartala police station against three students in higher classes. They argued that the incident of physical assault and verbal abuse of three junior students recently occurred after they refused to obtain liqueur from the market.
The school, named after the Bengal Minister of the Royal Court, Umakant Das, now has an English branch. Students from junior classes study in the English medium.
The hostel is based only in tribal students and receive free accommodation and meals. However, the elementary school and its English branch are open to all communities.
Mr. Debbarma, together with the officials, visited the school and the hostel to ask first -hand charges. He said that undesirable incidents undermined the inheritance of the school that produced laurels over the decades.
He warned that the government would act strictly if such an incident was repeated. He ordered the hostel and guard guards to be vigilant.
The Minister said the incident has now been investigated.
