The TN Assembly session will begin today with the Governor’s address

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will deliver his customary address to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly at 10 am on Thursday.

This is the first session of the House after the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay assumed office and won the trust vote.

The governor’s customary address to the House assumes significance in the backdrop of past instances where former governor RN Ravi and the previous DMK government have clashed over various issues. The then governor walked out of the House on several occasions.

According to sources, a new Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has been formed and a meeting will be convened on Thursday afternoon to decide on the duration of the Assembly session.

The BAC will be chaired by Chairman JCD Prabhakar, while Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Ministers N. Anand, KA Sengottaiyan (Leader of the House), R. Nirmalkumar, S. Rajeshkumar, Vanni Arasu and Chief Government Whip R. Sabarinathan will be members of the committee.

Other members include Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, EV Velu and SS Sivasankar of DMK; Edappadi K. Palaniswami and OS Manian of AIADMK; Sowmiya Anbumani of PMK; R. Chellaswamy of the CPI(M); T. Ramachandran of the CPI; and Syed Farooq Basha of IUML.

At present, the strength of the assembly is 228 following the resignation of the Tiruchi East Assembly segment seat by Mr. Vijay, who retained the Perambur seat, and the resignations of five AIADMK MLAs — Maragatham Kumaravel, P. Sathyabama, S. Jayakumar, Esaki Subaya and C. Vijayabaskar.
