The Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) and mutawallis across the state are racing against time to meet the March 12 deadline for uploading documents related to waqf properties on the UMEED portal. But given the huge amount of real estate, it’s a tall order, according to officials.
Officials told The Hindu that thousands of properties have to be uploaded and then verified before the deadline.
According to officials, the urgent concentration stems from the fact that the erstwhile composite district of Medak has a particularly large number of waqf properties. According to them, the district alone has around 28,000 properties. Hyderabad also has a significant number of such properties which require documentation and verification.
Officials pointed out that the verification process is another challenge. The designated reviewer and approver must be a civil servant and cannot be an outsider. As a result, surveyors and assistant secretaries are responsible for providing final clearance for recorded properties.
Despite the deadline pressure, board officials expressed confidence that the work would be completed on time and said teams would work around the clock until March 12 to ensure the required documents were uploaded and approved.
Speaking to The Hindu, TGWB Executive Director Mohammed Asadullah said, “The number of waqf properties is large. We have spoken to mutawallis and others to speed up the process. We will be able to complete the work on time.”
In a separate development, the TGWB and the Department of Heritage Telangana continue to be deadlocked over the enumeration of protected sites, which are Muslim places of worship. While the latter sought full handover of these sites under Section 3D of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 from the TGWB, the board is seeking relevant documents such as the agreement between the Telangana Heritage Department and the mutawallis and its ratification by the Telangana government.
