The Navyandhra Teachers’ Association has expressed concern over the incomplete construction of school buildings that was taken up as part of the Nadu-Nedu program during the YSRCP tenure.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, February 8, association president Karanam Harikrishna and state general secretary Maganti Srinivasa Rao said; “Almost 80% of the construction work has been completed in many schools, but the remaining work has not been completed due to lack of funds.”
The association urged the state government to complete the construction of these buildings, which were taken up on a large scale involving crores of rupees by the previous government.
The members also emphasized on the need to build more classrooms whenever required in accordance with the student strength and appealed to the state government to allocate special funds under the ‘Mana Badi – Mana Bhavishyathu’ scheme in the upcoming budget.
“Due to inadequate budget allocations, basic infrastructure development has not been started in many schools. The government must allocate funds this time to ensure that students do not face any inconvenience,” the association members said.
The members opined that instead of depending on donors to build school infrastructure, the state government should set aside earmarked funds for the purpose. The association reminded the leaders that the vision of educating students to meet international standards can only be realized when adequate infrastructure is provided in schools.
