The Tamil Nadu police are intensifying their crackdown on rowdies and drug offenders

Police have carried out a nationwide crackdown on history recorders, habitual offenders, drug offenders and fugitive accused as part of a preventive police drive.

The operation was conducted on the instructions of Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal.

Between May 28 and June 10, ongoing surveillance and verification drives were conducted across the state targeting record offenders and non-record offenders.

During the drive, police checked details of 36,740 records and 1,328 of them were arrested and remanded in custody.

During the special non-bailable warrant (NBW) enforcement proceedings from June 1 to June 10, 2,939 NBWs were executed through sustained enforcement efforts. Efforts are also underway to execute pending NBWs and secure absconding accused.

Police teams seized 231 kg of ganja and 4,073 narcotic tablets, including 22.55 g of methamphetamine, 0.006 g of MDMA and 362.5 kg of gutkha product. A total of 202 offenders were arrested and placed in judicial custody.

All Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police and Heads of Special Forces have been instructed to continue intensive monitoring through regular checks, preventive measures and strict surveillance to prevent criminal activities and maintain law and order in the state.
