The Tamil Nadu Survey Officers Union (TNSOU) has announced an indefinite strike from November 18, pressing for various demands. It said the state government had not responded to the agitations held in Chennai on July 15 and 16 and September 7 and 8, leading to the decision to call for an indefinite strike from November 18.
Among the demands were reduction of the target for online patta transfers, timely promotion of inspectors, announcement of recruitment results of new inspectors, resolution of salary related issues, abandonment of proposal to appoint inspectors on contractual basis and appointment of field assistants on special pay schedule instead of contract basis.
TNSOU President J. Raja and General Secretary Anna Kuberan also called for the creation of posts of inspectors and surveyors in the newly created firms and revenue divisions, and training of officers in law and order and court proceedings, as they are involved in surveying, keeping land books and surveying land for court cases, among others.
The union also called for the creation of new places for the newly established municipalities. She further urged the introduction of a system that will allow patta transfers to be done online only across the state. The TNSOU has also requested that the state government distribute the equipment needed to carry out survey work across the state.
