The Minister of Labor Santosh Lad said that, according to the Memorandum of Understanding (Mo) signed between the State Government and the Swiss Society, whose officials will soon visit Hubballi-Dharwad to study and prepare a detailed report on the E-UT (Electric Rapid Transit).
On Monday, he spoke to Prespersons in Dharwad and Mr. Lad explained that there was no deadline for submitting DPR, but it would probably take four months.
The Minister stated that after the DPR submission the state government will study the proposal and its economic feasibility. Subsequently, a meeting of all parties involved will be convened to discuss related problems, he said.
Initial discussions with the company’s officials revealed that 20 km will be increased from the proposed 23 km, which not only relieves traffic density, but also helps commuting to reach their destination in time, he said.
Mr. Lad said that compared to 33 stops between Hubballi and Dharwad within the existing BRTS (fast transit system), the emphasis will be focused on reducing the number of stops under the proposed e-UR.
There will be three or four stops on the 23 km section, he added.
Mr. Lad said that the government is positive on the economic feasibility of the proposed project and personally felt that the project would soon be a reality.
For the record, Hubballi-Dharwad already has a bus fast transit system (BRTS) managed by Hubballi Dharwad Brts Limited.
As a result of complaints and Lacunae in the existing transport system, a few months ago a few months ago a proposal for e-UR.
