On Friday (August 1, 2025), the Supreme Court asked states to answer a petition that was looking for online betting and rental applications.
The bench headed by Judge Surya Kant followed this problem as “primary public importance”.
The court heard a petition led by Ka Paul, which claimed that many children had died suicide after using online betting and gambling applications, looking for a temporary direction to limit celebrities from their support and the media to provide publicity.
The bench agreed to the proposal for hearing on 18 August.
Mr. Paul was looking for interim relief in the form of restrictions on celebrities, including crickets, from the support of betting applications. The petitioner claimed that the presence of such personalities attracted impressive young people.
“These celebrities should be instantly limited and the media should be asked not to show these confirmation because their use is affected by more than 30 million adolescents.
