On Tuesday (April 29, 2025), the Supreme Court ordered Shahi Jama Masjid’s management in Sambhal to respond to the Uttar Pradesh status report that the questionable stood well “completely out” of the mosques, unlike what the Muslim party said.

The head of the Huzef Ahmadi, who appeared for the mosque administration, said they made a “absolutely right statement”. Part of the well was inside the mosque. He said the well was covered at the top of the cement. The mosque drew water from the well, a structure that was of historical importance. Water has been used by a mosque since time immemorial, said Mr. Ahmadi.
Attorney Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu party, claimed that the well was out of the reach of the mosque and its water was historically used to worship at his side.

In November 2024, the Top Court had to intervene to instruct the Uttar Pradesh police and the district administration Sambhal to be “absolutely, absolutely neutral” and to maintain peace after a civil court surveyed to verify the claims of Hindu applicants.
The Supreme Court then remained a civil proceedings in the local court and ordered a report on the mosque survey prepared by the Commissioner for Advocates to be held in a sealed cover.
