Analysis of international classification of diseases (ICD) data on cancer cancer has found a reasonably high incidence of cancer in women in the city segment of Sangner in Jaipur. Sangner is known for its traditional textile industry, including the printing of the Sanganeri hand block.
Surface water bodies in Sanganer have a high level of pollution with toxic waste waste from textiles and other units. The city is home to many small units where craftsmen produce a printed substance.
Highly contaminated water is widely used for growing green vegetables in the area. Medico-Legal activist SG Kabra raised the question of whether contaminating carcinogens in sanganer selectively affected the female population in the region.
Cancer data of 23 patients from Sangner, reported between 2020 and 2024, were analyzed in the light of the fact that several toxic chemicals in the outflow contain likely carcinogens. A total of 14,512 cancer patients from all over Rajasthan were reported during the period.
The Histopathology Department of Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital in Jaipur is approved by the center for reporting histopathologically confirmed cases of cancer from Rajasthan to the National Center for Informatics for Diseases and Research of Indian ICMR Cancer Register.
