
Members of various student unions and youth organizations staged a dharna in Khammam on Sunday demanding a thorough probe into the “suspicious death” of an IX student. classes of Ashram Government Girls High School in Vallabhi village of Khammam district.
Representatives of AISF, SFI, PDSU and several other organizations took part in the demonstration.
The protestors alleged that the girl had taken “sleeping pills” on Saturday and was unable to bear the harassment by the ashram’s high school staff. They said the girl died during treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad around midnight on Saturday.
They demanded strict action against the “errant staff” of the ashram school and sought justice for the family of the deceased.
According to sources, the protestors relented after the officials concerned assured that they would order a detailed inquiry into the incident and provide all possible help to the girl’s family.
Meanwhile, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mudigonda Police Station was not available to comment on the exact cause of death.
