The American couple, Katie and Dustin Maletich, spoke to defend their parent style after their nine -year -old son finished the handles and attracted 60 squats on online attention, divided by the audience, according to Fox News Digital.
The video was based on an exchange in which Dustin’s stepon Tommy told his mother to “chill”. In response to Dustin – who works as an officer for repairing a prison – he asked the boy to complete a short exercise before reassuring the importance of speaking with respect. Tommy later offered an apology and the interaction ended the hug.
The reactions were mixed: while some appreciated the compound and structured treatment of the situation, others disagreed with the interconnection of the discipline with physical exercise. New York pediatrician Dr. Dyan Hes described this as a “ridiculous punishment”, which warns that strenuous activity can be dangerous for children and risk support for negative attitudes to fitness.
On the other hand, the educational psychologist Dr. Michele Borba considered this incident more positive and points out that the stepfather remained measured and that the task seemed to be managed for the child. Her greater concerns consisted in the possible emotional consequences of public publication of shots.
When they talked to Fox News Digital, the Malletichs stressed that they did not use exercises such as punishment, but rather as a way of teaching self -control and emotional balance of their children. They explained that any consequences should reflect the behavior and encourage young people to find healthier ways of mastering frustration.
They also shared that their thirteen -year -old daughter sometimes decides to go for a walk or run when it is upset, and that it allows her to express her more effectively later.
