The State Institute of Animal Diseases is getting a new laboratory complex, a unit for the analysis of toxin residues

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister J. Chinchu Rani will inaugurate the new Toxicology Laboratory Complex and Toxin Residue Analysis Unit set up with funds from the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI) under the Kerala Chicken Project at the State Institute of Animal Diseases (SIAD), Palode on Wednesday.

DK Murali, Vamanapuram MLA will preside over the function.

The Toxicology Department of SIAD, the state reference laboratory of the Department of Animal Husbandry, is responsible for testing animal deaths caused by poisoning and identifying mycotoxins present in animal feed. The new laboratory complex was set up using ₹4.5 crore.

“This major infrastructure upgrade includes a sub-department called ‘Toxin Residue Analytical Laboratory,’ funded by the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI) as part of the Kerala Chicken Project. This laboratory offers improved facilities for conducting pesticide and antibiotic residue testing in animal foods and reinforces Kerala’s commitment to food safety and animal health,” the press release said.
