Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Monday that the state government has reintroduced the GBA to improve governance in the city and is proceeding with the elections in accordance with court verdicts and directions.
Responding to concerns about civic administration, Mr. Shivakumar said the government has undertaken extensive digitization of municipal records to prevent revenue leakage. This includes document scanning and the introduction of the e-Khata system. He said the Cauvery software has been implemented to prevent tax evasion and records of around 25 million properties have been digitized so far, while 9.5 million e-Khata documents have already been issued to property owners.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that steps have been taken to ensure transparency and prevent corruption in the system. He added that officials had been instructed to provide access to the app for free, noting that several property owners were previously unaware of the details relating to their own properties.
Mr. Shivakumar also claimed that the Center has recognized the digitization efforts and said that the Central Government officials appreciated the implementation, cooperated with the state officials and issued certificates in recognition of the work done.
Regarding regularization of property, he said the process of converting B-Khata properties into A-Khata has been started, around 7,000 applications have been received so far and more are expected in the coming days. A time limit of 15 days has been set to complete the transfer process, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister dismissed criticism that development initiatives in Bengaluru have slowed down and said several infrastructure works are underway. He said the government was carrying out white coating of 1,600 km of roads, started work on street lighting and prioritized measures to improve traffic.
