The State Electric Council (KSEB) has launched the introduction of intelligent meters as part of an alternative implementation model approved by the State Government.
The first meters were piloted on two government connections below the Puthenchantha electrical sections in the Thiruvananthapuram district and seven meters of feeder in the 220 kV substation in Kalamassers in the Ernakulam district.
As part of the implementation plan, meters will be installed for government consumers, high voltage consumers (HT) and distribution transformers, 11 kV and 22 kv feeders and at the first phase electrical division.
The KSEB will restore introduction for the remaining government consumers and its own feeders since August 2. Power Utility hopes to complete the installation of these categories by November 2025.
Almost 1.5 lakh single -phase meters will be installed in government offices throughout the state. Tests take place at 50,000 meters. KSEB focuses on completing the installation of transformers’ boundaries by March 2026 and by August 2026 consumer ht meters.
While municipal consumers are not included in the initial phases, the KSEB has also created a plan for their equipment by intelligent meters.
The original implementation plan of intelligent meters on the Totex (Total Supenders) has launched the main line with the trade unions of the energy sectors, claiming that this would adversely affect the consumers and prepare the way for privatization in energy distribution. Subsequently, the Kerala government approved the CAPEX model, according to which the meters will be installed in multiple phases of the KSEB. In accordance with this KSEB decision, he also called on offers for a 3 -meter -meter supply.
The work order was issued to install meters up to 18 months and their maintenance for 72 months.
