Museums play a key role in preserving a nation’s culture and traditions and passing them on to future generations, speakers noted during the International Museum Day celebrations at the Baudhasree Archaeological Museum in Guntur on Monday.

The event was jointly organized by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) to create awareness among students about the importance of museums and cultural preservation.

Addressing the gathering, noted historian P. Srinadh Reddy explained the importance of museums in educating people, especially students, about human civilization – from the tools used during the Stone Age to the present technological advancements. He said museums serve as vital platforms to connect younger generations with history, heritage and scientific advancement.

Mr. Srinadh Reddy also highlighted job opportunities in the museum sector and encouraged students to explore careers related to heritage conservation, archeology and museum management.

Students who participated in the program expressed their joy of learning about several unknown aspects of history and culture through the visit to the museum.

International Museum Day has been celebrated annually on May 18 since a resolution adopted by the International Council of Museums in Moscow in 1977.

INTACH Guntur Mudigonda Chapter Convener Ravi Sankar, Guntur District Tourism Officer A. Sri Ramya and several members and organizers were among those present.
