After the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 introduced by the BJP-led Union government was defeated in the Lok Sabha, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin declared that the South is united, its voice is heard and democracy has won.
The aim of the bill was to increase the strength of the Lok Sabha through delimitation enabling the implementation of 33% reservation for women in the House. 352 votes were needed for approval, with a two-thirds majority with 528 MPs voting, but he got only 298.
