The ‘ITPB Metro Skywalk’, an elevated pedestrian corridor connecting the Pattandur Agrahara Metro station on the Purple Line directly to the International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB) and Park Square Mall, was inaugurated on Friday to improve last-mile connectivity.
The Skywalk is 320 feet long and is elevated 24 feet above the road. It connects metro services to the business park and adjacent mall and is expected to benefit over 55,000 professionals working in ITPB. It also aims to eliminate the need to cross busy roads and reduce commuting times, improve pedestrian safety and encourage greater use of public transport.
ITPB said the skywalk will improve accessibility not only for office-goers but also for residents and shoppers visiting the mall and surrounding business parks, thereby easing traffic congestion around the technology hub.
BMRCL Managing Director J. Ravishankar said in a statement that the project demonstrated the benefits of public-private collaboration. “Skywalk is a good example of effective public-private collaboration that enhances last-mile connectivity and improves the overall commuting experience. Pedestrian connections between metro stations and major activity hubs are essential to enhance last-mile connectivity, improve the commuting experience and encourage the use of public transport, all of which support sustainable urban mobility in Bengaluru,” he said.
A yellow line train derails
Meanwhile, a Yellow Line train reportedly derailed at Hebbagodi depot on the morning of January 15, damaging several sleepers and part of the third track.
The incident probably occurred as a result of a signaling failure when the train entered the main line.
BMRCL has not issued an official statement on the incident. However, officials said Yellow Line services were not affected and that all seven trains were running as scheduled.
