Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday questioned the Maharashtra government over the financial “package” announced by the chief minister for the flood-hit residents of the state. He alleged that the state government had “rushed” the proposal last week after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said his ministry had not received any proposal from Maharashtra to provide assistance to farmers.
Speaking to reporters at the party office at the Vidhan Bhavan premises in Nagpur, where the state legislature is in its winter session, Mr. Thackeray said, “We want to know what proposal the state government has sent to the Centre, how much relief they have demanded and who will benefit from it. The details of the proposal should be tabled in the legislature.”
With the start of the winter session, the debate around the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) has started. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) criticized the Mahayutim-led government for not appointing the LoP, while the ruling party stressed that the party needs at least 10% of the total seats in the assembly, which no opposition party has.
Mr. Thackeray reiterated, “If there is scope for Deputy Chief Minister posts, why is the government afraid to appoint LoP.”
Mr. Thackeray criticized Mr. Fadnavis for supporting and showing leniency to MLAs and ministers who were allegedly involved in corruption.
