Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said the annual Sansad Khel Mahotsav will begin on Thursday in Kundgol and conclude with the final events of the round in Dharwad on January 30, 2026.
Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Monday, Mr. Joshi said that the aim of the sprots meet is to encourage the youth to participate in various sports activities and also to motivate them to take interest in the native games.
Mr Joshi said that as youth participation in physical activities had declined in recent years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had repeatedly emphasized the need for young people to take up sports.
He added that promotion of regular and home games remains a key focus of the initiative.
From Kundgol
Mr. Joshi said the event will begin on Thursday with the formal launch of the two-day assembly-level competitions near Shivanand School at Kundgol in Dharwad district.
Subsequently, constituency and taluk level events will be held in Kalghatgi, Garag, Dharwad, Navalgund, Hubballi, Shiggaon before the final round at Karnatak College Grounds in Dharwad on January 29 and 30, 2026.
Khel Mahotsav includes both individual athletic events and group games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Volleyball.
Apart from tribal games like Mallakhamba, Lagori, tug of war, Gilli-Danda (tip-cat), wrestling and more. Competitions will be held in under-17 and over-17 categories, and the winners will receive material prizes and cups.
