JSW Foundation organized a National Farmers Day program and demonstration of a model farm at Taluru village in Sandur taluk of Ballari district on Sunday to highlight the benefits of integrated farming practices and sustainable agriculture.
The event showcased the success of progressive farmer T. Veeresh, who adopted the integrated farming model by growing 23 crops, including betel leaves, bananas and onions.
His farm, which generates substantial income, has been presented as a model for other farmers in the region.
JSW Foundation head for southern region Peddanna Beedala told the gathering that the foundation is promoting integrated farming among 300 farmers in 10 selected villages.
“Farmers have already undergone initial training. In the coming week, we will be distributing soil health reports, organic fertilizers, vegetable seeds, vermicompost kits, 20 native Giriraj chickens and basic plants for one or two acres per farmer, along with practical training,” he said, urging farmers to actively participate and benefit from the initiative.
Experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hagari, guided the farmers on integrated farming practices, soil and water management, pest control, modern techniques and crop selection suitable for the Sandur region.
Senior scientists P. Palaih and S. Ravi also addressed farmers’ queries and offered practical advice based on local conditions.
Manager of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative, Ballari, Hanamantappa led the visit to the model plots and explained the crop layout, farm management practices and real-time applications of integrated farming.
JSW Foundation Program Executive Nagana Gowda, SCODWES implementing partner representatives including Raja and Gangadhar, progressive farmers including Veeresh and Basappa and over 100 farmers from nearby villages participated in the programme.
