26 -year -old Russian man shared his painful story on Reddit. He has been stuck in India since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian War.
Originally came from Taganrog in the area of Rostov, just 20 km from Ukraine. At the beginning of 2022 he fled to India on a student visa to study yoga and Vedic culture. He hoped to escape the war.
The man managed to expand his visa once, but because of money problems he could not restore him for the second time. He reluctantly crossed.
He spent all his savings to move to India and feared he was sent home. Later, things got worse when he was robbed. He lost his passport, documents, military certificate and telephone.
“My embassy helps me a bit, but only by giving me a temporary flight document. They do not provide a place to stay or flight tickets, although they understand that I do not have support from my family members or old friends or something,” he wrote.
To leave India, he needs permission from leaving the foreigners of the regional registration officer (FRO). However, it requires proof of residence that it cannot provide because no hostel or landlord accepts it without passport.
The Reddit user claims to have been forced to live on railway stations, sometimes for several months.
“… a cleaner guy stabbed me in his arm during the fight (he chose it), the police in the new Delhi, PF1, decided to throw me away because I wanted to file a company,” the man wrote.
The man sometimes stays at the airport in Delhi with little money and survives little help from friends or foreigners. He says he is not trying to cheat or violate laws, only wants to clean up documents to return home.
Reddit reacts
Many Reddit users have tried to help him.
“Please mark the Minister of external Affairs on X, attach your picture, living conditions, scanned copies of documents. Connect your post here, we will increase visibility. If the Minister notices your case, it will help you,” wrote one of them.
Another user wrote: “Do you have scanned copies of the passport and visas? They should act as temporary documentation and assistance in some situations.”
“You just surrender to the Indian immigration or office for the Foreign Ministry, send you back. It’s not so complicated, you may have to spend some time in custody,” he came from another.
Later the man reported that he had received some gifts.
“The first thing I spent from it was Melatonin and some food,” he wrote.
