
A joint team of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and Criminal Intelligence Branch successfully busted a high-value theft case involving gold ornaments worth Rs 5.07 lakh at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station. One person has been arrested in the case.
The case relates to the theft of a bag containing five sovereigns and 2.5 grams of gold ornaments from a female passenger on January 25. The Thiruvananthapuram GRP unit has registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to an official report, a special team conducted an intensive investigation and analyzed footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras covering the railway station and surrounding areas, including the KSRTC bus stand.
Based on credible information, accused Shyam Chrispin (44) of Kanyakumari was nabbed near KSRTC bus stand on February 3 and later arrested by GRP personnel after confirmation through CCTV evidence. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of the entire stolen gold ornaments, which were found hidden at a place near the Nedumangad junction. The team was led by Muhammed Haneef, Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, Thiruvananthapuram.
