Speakers at a round table organized by the CPI (M) Bhadrachalam city committee on Thursday warned of a “sadak bandh” if sand-laden trucks were allowed to enter the damaged stretch of the Charla-Venkatapuram highway in Bhadrachalam agency without repairing the damaged road.
The round table was presided over by Telangana Adivasi Girijana Sangham district secretary Karam Pullaiah and was attended by representatives of CPI (M), TDP, CPI (ML) Mass Line and various other organizations.
Addressing the participants, CPI (M) District Secretary Machha Venkateshwarlu said the incessant plying of overloaded sand trucks on the highway has caused severe damage to the road, creating a nightmare for motorists and posing a safety hazard.
The rest of the speakers expressed concern over the poor condition of the highway at various stretches, especially between Charla and Venkatapuram.
They threatened to launch an agitation if the government did not carry out repairs to the highway, a key interstate road passing through the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam Agency.
