Balance of professional obligations with family duties can be difficult, especially in times of crisis. Recently, the Reddit user shared how his family fought after his father -in -law had encountered an accident just to face other challenges when her daughter’s request was rejected.
What happened to the family?
According to Redditor @fayazar, his father -in -law and her brother participated in scooter accidents last week. She suffered a broken arm, while her face and hand of her brother were heavily swollen and bruised.
“Indian working culture is actually crazy,” he reads the title of the post.
Why was WFH request rejected?
The post explained that the younger daughter of the father -in -law, who works in an IT company in Bengalur, asked for a job from home for a month to help her mother who was unable to move or manage everyday work.
The company asked for evidence, so it presented MRI scanning and police report. Despite this, the company called on the meeting to refuse her application, and quoted the “limited bandwidth” in the team.
“Her work doesn’t even need her to be in the office,” Redditor added, expressing frustration out of lack of understanding.
Meanwhile, the injured uncle was reportedly given only two days of vacation and still depends on his younger brother for everyday commuting.
“I have always heard of how large businesses he lacks empathy (Mr. Robot), but watching how it happens, honestly interferes differently. It’s disgusting,” the post continued.
How did Reddit react?
The post drew strong reactions of users who criticized the company’s response. Many have described the decision as “shocking” and “missing empathy”, especially because all the documents required were provided.
One user noted: “We as a company lacking empathy. I feel for you and your family.”
Another one added: “Sick. I feel that as a company we will have to turn back to building and running family businesses.”
The third user recommended: “Ask your wife’s sister to take all her paid sheets over the mail. Ask her to prepare for another company during this time.”
Several users have shared similar experiences and says strict politicians in the workplace often make it difficult to solve personal emergencies while meeting professional expectations.
The discussion again emphasized the growing debate on empathy and flexibility in Indian corporate culture – especially when employees face real family crises.
